READ THE SHOW PROGRAMME

A Christmas Carol, As told by Scrooge runs at The Spire, 16-30 Dec 2020. We are not printing programmes this year, so here's all you need to know about the show and who is involved.

First of all, some thanks...

Our shows are always a magical mix of creativity and incredible generosity, often calling favours and borrowing bits here and there to make the best show possible. This year it has been even more a labour of many people's love and talent.

So ...

- to Laura, Greg, Beth, Emma and the team at ACCA for enabling our technical team to dream big and providing much of our lighting;

- to our vocalists and creatives from Chichester University, who provided our harmonious carols;

- To Harrison White & Helen Atkinson for their previous work on the show

- to Jo, James, Martin, Darren and Victoria at Royal & Derngate Theatres (Northampton) for supporting us, as ever, with costume and set;

- to David & Faith at The Spire, without whose support wouldn't be here

- to Paul, Ross and the team who provided our stage

- to Chris Keen, for supporting us with camera gear

- to Paul & Charlotte Bazely as ever, for their support

- to Adrian Bristow for his expert eye on our risk management and health & safety planning

- to the brilliantly supportive family and friends of our company

- to Annie, Kim, Anne-Marie and our TRUESTORY company members who have given their time

... to you all, thank you so much for your support and faith.

GARY SEFTON | "Scrooge"

Gary is the artistic director of Truestory and has led all our shows both on stage and behind the scenes. He has worked extensively in theatre for over 20 years at many major establishments including The RSC, National Theatre, Northampton Royal, CFT and many other regional repertory companies. He teaches at many of the

leading drama schools and often directs for Chichester University. garysefton.co.uk

STUART ANGELL | Director

Stuart is an actor and director, with a specialism for movement, puppetry and physical performance. He has appeared in many critically acclaimed shows (for the NT: Pinocchio, Angels in America, and War Horse | for the Old Vic: The Lorax, and Mood Music | for Bristol Old Vic: The Grinning Man) as well as performance capture work (featuring in Andy Serkis's MOWGLI, and Agent Link

several AAA video games). He is a regular collaborator with Gary Sefton

(among others, for Royal & Derngate: Travels With My Aunt | for Ustinov Theatre, Bath: deadkidsongs). He played Bob Cratchit when a version of this show played The Cube (Corby).

Stuart is "thrilled to be given the opportunity collaborate on such an important version of this very special show, and is relishing the chance to put Gary through some of the pain that he himself has been dishing out to actors for so many years!"

EMMA HENDERSON | Lighting Designer

Emma is a Brighton based Lighting Designer specialising in contemporary dance and theatre and this is her first show with the True Story company. Her most recent credits include "The Pirate Cruncher" for Goat and Monkey Theatre and "YIN" for Laura Vanhulle Dance where she is the Company Designer. Emma is a Lead Technician at The Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts where she also teaches lighting design for the University of Sussex.

After almost a year of sitting at home with her cat she is thrilled to be back painting with lights this Christmas, her cat is less thrilled. She has so enjoyed living in the magical world of Christmas Carol which is her mothers favourite Christmas story, but she secretly thinks this version is the best. Welcome back to the world of theatre and Merry Christmas.

CULTURAL BRIGHTON IS ON A CLIFF EDGE

We would like to acknowledge that, due to Covid, our work has been hugely reduced this year. This has directly impacted ~32 creative individuals, organisations and suppliers who, in a normal year, work on and critically get paid from our ticket and bar sales.

Most of those (and indeed including those working on this show)

have seen more than 50% loss of income in 2020.

A 1/3 of all workers in the arts have left the sector this year

& we are not out of the woods yet.

We wonder what will become of us all.
